The United States has taken the top spot worldwide in gross gaming revenue (GGR*) within the online betting sector. According to a study by international consultancy Regulus Partners, published by BBC News Brasil, the U.S. market is projected to generate $17.3 billion in 2025 — more than three times that of its nearest competitors.
The United Kingdom ($9.9 billion) and Italy ($4.6 billion) round out the top three.
The United States maintains its strong lead thanks to the widespread legalization of sports betting across most states, rapid growth of mobile platforms, and the dominant presence of major operators such as FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM.
Following the top three are Russia ($4.5 billion) and Brazil ($4.1 billion), with Brazil having only legalized online betting in 2025. The rest of the global top ten includes Australia ($3.7 billion), Canada ($3 billion), France ($2.9 billion), South Africa ($2.5 billion), and Germany ($1.9 billion).
Overall, the United States continues to set the pace for the global online betting industry, influencing both market growth and emerging regulatory standards.
