A Dutch legal group has filed a class action lawsuit against international bookmaker Unibet, accusing the company of blocking access to historical account data, Casino Nieuws reports.

The suit was brought by the advocacy organization Gokverliesterug, acting on behalf of 23 bettors who say Unibet is refusing to release detailed records of their past deposits and winnings. The data in question dates back to the years before the Netherlands officially legalized online gambling.

Why does it matter? The players are looking to calculate their full losses in hopes of recovering those funds through the courts.

Legal precedent is now on their side — recent Dutch rulings have opened the door for bettors to claim back losses incurred with unlicensed platforms operating before market regulation kicked in.

Prior to licensing, Unibet wasn’t authorized to target Dutch players. That distinction is now proving costly. Several rulings against operators like Unibet and Bwin have already shown that the courts are taking this line seriously.

Notably, Unibet stopped showing archived player transaction data earlier this year. According to attorney Benzi Loonstein, the company believed that removing access would reduce the risk of lawsuits from Dutch customers. Now the legality of that move is set to be tested in court.
