The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is getting ready to legalize gambling by setting up a federal authority, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), to oversee the industry, Quartz reports.
The GCGRA will be in charge of regulating commercial gambling in the UAE, but its structure and functions are still unclear. The creation of the regulator is one of the last steps before gambling becomes officially legal in the country.
The regulator will be led by Kevin Mullally, a former CEO of the Missouri Gaming Commission, as its CEO.
Jim Murren, a former Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, an American gaming and entertainment company, will be the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Gambling is not yet legal in the UAE, but some companies are already building casinos in anticipation. Wynn Resorts, another American gaming and entertainment company, is developing a gaming and entertainment complex on Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the emirates.
