The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Benjamin Acorda Jr., has launched a crackdown on underground gambling in the island nation, called “High Roller”.
What’s shocking is that it’s not just the shady operators who are in trouble. Benjamin has also put the heat on his own officers who may have turned a blind eye to the illegal activities.
He warned that any cops who failed to stop or report the gambling rings in their area could lose their job or face heavy fines.
That means all the bad apples in the police force who let the casinos run under their nose will get what’s coming to them. Whether this move will put an end to the gambling problem in the country remains to be seen.
It’s worth noting that the PNP and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) have recently teamed up to fight illegal gambling nationwide.
