Nine people have been arrested in Singapore on suspicion of organizing and participating in match-fixing in the K. Star National Basketball League Division 1, according to Channel NewsAsia.
Among those detained are eight Singaporeans and one foreign national, with some currently active as players. The suspects are aged between 19 and 35.
One of the matches under suspicion took place on August 1, when Tagawa faced Tong Whye. The game ended in a 66–43 victory for the home team.
Further details have not yet been disclosed as investigations continue. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) issued a statement: “Singapore has a strict zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, and match-fixing in any form is not condoned. CPIB will not hesitate to take firm action against any parties who give, receive, or offer bribes to fix a match.”
