The Kindbridge Research Institute has announced the formation of the Military Gambling Awareness Committee (MGAC), a new initiative dedicated to addressing and mitigating the harms of gambling within the US military community.

The committee will “collaborate closely with the military and the US Department of Defense (DoD) to identify policy gaps through evidence-based approaches and offer guidance on potential adjustments”.

The MGAC is comprised of highly qualified experts with extensive knowledge and experience in tackling problem gambling among military personnel. The committee includes representatives from the sports and betting industries, including BetMGM’s Senior Manager for Responsible Gaming Richard Taylor and NASCAR’s Managing Director of Sports Betting Joe Solosky, both of whom have past military service.

The committee’s focus will be on raising awareness and educating service members about gambling-related issues, including the potential risks and consequences of problem gambling. The MGAC will also support mental health initiatives aimed at enhancing the readiness and cohesion of the US armed forces.

Gambling addiction is a significant issue for American military personnel. Research conducted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Bowling Green State University has shown that signs of gambling disorder are observed in 70% of service members

The Kindbridge Research Institute specializes in mental health issues within the military community. Through research, outreach, and innovative programs, the institute aims to improve the lives of service members and their families.
