Netflix has announced the launch of a new drama series centered on the modern gambling industry in Las Vegas.
The eight-episode project is being developed by showrunners, writers, and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien, best known for Billions and Ocean’s Thirteen. The duo’s career began in gambling-themed storytelling as well — they wrote the screenplay for the 1998 poker thriller Rounders.
Martin Scorsese will serve as an executive producer on the new Netflix project.
Set in the gambling capital of the United States, the series follows Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, the head of Las Vegas’s most prominent casino-resort, who is forced to make increasingly risky decisions to maintain his influence and protect his empire. The title of the series has not yet been revealed, and the cast remains undisclosed.
The project thematically echoes Scorsese’s 1995 classic Casino, which explored Las Vegas’s gambling economy in the second half of the 20th century, detailing its inner workings, organized-crime oversight, and industry conflicts.
However, Netflix’s new series is not connected to Casino narratively. It is a standalone story set in the present-day Las Vegas gambling industry. A release date will be announced at a later time.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that poker platform GGPoker had commissioned a documentary series about professional players.
