In Montenegro, gambling operators are threatening local authorities with protests over a proposed law that would ban them from opening establishments near kindergartens. Strange as it might sound, that’s precisely what’s happening.
According to Vijesti, the conflict has emerged due to a draft bill requiring a minimum distance between gambling venues and preschools. Lawmakers have agreed on a mandatory 150-meter distance.
Local gambling companies argue that the layout of kindergartens in Montenegrin cities makes it virtually impossible for them to comply.
As a result, casinos, betting shops, and slot-machine halls would be forced outside city limits, and operators say establishing businesses in remote areas such as mountains or forests is impractical.
If the proposed legislation passes, gambling operators have threatened to shut down operations completely. Gambling Park also notes that operators plan to mobilize their employees to protest and block the bill.
