Monaco, home to the world-famous Monte Carlo Casino, has been crowned the top travel destination of 2025 by European Best Destinations. According to Forbes, the European gambling capital outshined over 500 other contenders to claim the number one spot.

Out of half a thousand cities across Europe, the top 20 were selected based on a major public vote.

The rankings were determined by 1.2 million travelers from 158 countries. Monaco took the lead with 115,891 votes.

“Explore the historic charm of Monaco, marvel at the legendary Place du Casino, or unwind at the Larvotto seaside complex, where luxury meets the Mediterranean. Enjoy Michelin-starred dining, vibrant cultural events, and a commitment to sustainable tourism,” reads the European Best Destinations travel guide.

Joining Monaco in the top 5 are Riga (Latvia), Dubrovnik and Cavtat (Croatia), Madrid (Spain), and Namur (Belgium). Last year, Monaco placed second on the list, finishing behind the Spanish resort city of Marbella.

One of the smallest countries in the world, Monaco sits on the southern coast of Europe along the Ligurian Sea, part of the Mediterranean. Monte Carlo Casino, which opened in 1865, has hosted some of history’s most famous figures, including German Emperor Wilhelm II and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
