Stake to Exit UK Market Over Viral Video Featuring Adult Film Actress

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has officially announced that online betting operator Stake will be shutting down its operations in the country. TGP Europe Limited, which operates the Stake.uk.com platform, will cut off access on March 11.

According to the UKGC, the decision follows the appearance of Stake’s branding in a widely circulated social media video featuring adult film actress Bonnie Blue.

The video, which went viral, shows Blue discussing her intimate experiences during her first year at the University of Nottingham.

The UKGC’s notice also raises concerns about Stake’s sponsorship agreements. The operator is currently a sponsor of Everton FC, and the commission has informed the club of the upcoming change in its sponsorship status. Additionally, regulators warned Everton about the ban on promoting unlicensed operators, a category Stake will soon fall into.
