Mexican authorities have blocked access to major gambling platforms Bet365 and Betano as part of a broad investigation into alleged money laundering. According to La Jornada, a total of 13 online and land-based casinos have been shut down in connection with the case.
The action follows a review by the Financial Intelligence Unit (Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera, UIF), which suspects the platforms of facilitating the laundering of funds obtained through criminal activity.
Investigators believe the sites were used to channel multimillion-dollar transfers abroad, including to the United States and Romania.
Despite the suspicions, both platforms had been operating legally in Mexico under licenses issued by the Interior Ministry (SEGOB). Public records confirm that Betano.mx holds a valid permit, and the operator even received a license renewal in October of this year.
Notably, some of the blocked platforms are owned by media conglomerate TV Azteca. Its internal audit reportedly uncovered suspicious financial activity and forwarded the findings to federal authorities.
The full shutdown has not yet been completed. The Bet365 and Betano mobile apps are already inaccessible in Mexico, while desktop versions of the sites remain reachable for now. Case materials are expected to be handed over to the prosecutor’s office for further criminal proceedings.
Gambling Park previously reported on Bet365’s plans to re-enter the French online betting market.
