Czech football is at the centre of a major match-fixing investigation, with authorities launching one of the largest police operations in the sport’s history, Prague Daily reported. Dozens of people have already been detained in a crackdown on alleged manipulation to profit from betting.
Those under suspicion include players, referees, officials and club representatives. The case involves at least 47 people.
Sources said matches at multiple levels are under scrutiny, from the top division to lower leagues and youth competitions. Investigators are examining schemes aimed at profiting from betting markets.
The crackdown follows a three-year investigation by Czech police, with support from Europol, Interpol and UEFA’s anti-match-fixing unit.
The probe is currently focused on Moravia in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, the Czech Football Association has said it will launch its own internal investigation.
The inquiry is ongoing and authorities have not disclosed the identities of those implicated.
Gambling Park notes that a strange moment involving Ugo Humbert taking out his phone before losing has raised betting concerns.
