Ugo Humbert Took Out His Phone and Lost: Strange Moment Raises Betting Questions

Ugo Humbert came under scrutiny following an unusual incident during his second-round match at the ATP Montpellier tournament.

The all-French encounter against Adrian Mannarino went to a deciding third set, with the outcome determined in a tie-break. Humbert was leading 4–3 and was just a few points away from victory. Earlier in the same set, he had also held three match points but failed to convert them.

The key moment occurred during the tie-break, when Humbert stopped play, walked over to his bag and took out a mobile phone.

The reason for the action remains unclear. No official comments have been issued by the player or tournament organizers. Tie-breaks allow only limited pauses, and the use of mobile phones on court is prohibited under competition rules.

Following the incident, Humbert’s performance deteriorated sharply. He failed to win another point, lost the remaining points of the tie-break and ultimately the match.

The unusual sequence — holding an advantage at a decisive stage, checking a phone and then suffering a sudden collapse — prompted widespread reaction on social media.

Users speculated about possible explanations for the player’s behavior, including unsubstantiated suggestions that he may have checked information related to betting markets or live odds. However, no evidence has emerged to support such claims.
