American rapper Jay-Z has penned an open letter to New Yorkers, urging them to back the plan to open a Caesars Palace casino on the city’s main square — Times Square. Mail Online reported that the performer gave reasons why the new gambling spot would be good for the city in his letter.

Jay-Z said that the new casino plan would bring more tourists and money to New York, making life better for everyday people.

He also claimed that Caesars Palace on Times Square would not hurt the revenues of nearby theaters. On the contrary, it would protect the interests of actors, producers, and other Broadway workers. The rapper noted that the casino project included allocating $115 million to support the theater industry.

The gaming venue in the heart of New York would boost local businesses and help improve the city’s transportation infrastructure, Jay-Z said. He and Caesars Palace aimed to create opportunities for all New Yorkers by opening the casino.

For context: Jay-Z and his Roc Nation company are part of a joint project with gambling operator Caesars Entertainment and real estate investment fund SL Green. If their application is approved and they get a license, Caesars Palace Times Square would occupy eight floors in the 54-story SL Green 1515 tower on Broadway.

However, they are not the only ones who want to open their gaming venues in New York. Other contenders include Wynn Resorts and the owner of the baseball team “New York Mets”, Steve Cohen.

The cost of getting a casino license in New York is at least $500 million.
