The Iowa Lottery has entered the Guinness World Records after breaking the record for the largest number of people scratching lottery tickets simultaneously, People.com reports.
The mass event took place on August 14 at the Iowa State Fair and was timed to the lottery’s 40th anniversary. Around 1,380 participants joined the record-setting celebration.
“I could die tomorrow, but at least I’ll have set a world record,” one participant joked.
The previous record was held by Poland’s Totalizator Sportowy Lotto, which brought together about 550 people in 2023. Iowa’s showing left that figure far behind, exceeding it by more than 800 participants.
An official Guinness World Records adjudicator attended the event, confirmed the achievement, and awarded the title to the Iowa Lottery.
To mark the occasion, organizers also held an extra prize drawing for all record participants. The top prize was $40,000, along with two additional prizes of $4,000 each.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported on an Irish player who won a record-breaking Euromillions jackpot.
