The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has released its data on suspicious matches in 2023 on its website. The data shows that the IBIA flagged 184 matches that could have been fixed. That’s a 35% drop from 2022.
The data breaks down the suspicious matches by region. Europe had the most with 113, followed by South America with 20, Asia with 17, and Africa with 16.
The report says that the United Kingdom had the most suspicious matches with 31. The Czech Republic and Brazil were next with 18 and 11, respectively.
Russia was not on the list at all. The IBIA did not spot any suspicious matches in Russia in 2023. That’s a change from the previous year, when Russia had 4 suspicious matches, all in table tennis.
The report also shows that football was the most likely sport to have match-fixing. The IBIA found 63 suspicious football matches in 2023. That’s about the same as the previous years: 67 in 2022 and 66 in 2021.
Tennis was the second most likely sport to be fixed, with 54 alerts in 2023. That’s a big improvement from 2022, when the IBIA found more than 100 suspicious tennis matches.
