Europe had the highest number of potential match-fixing cases with 60% of all possible fixed games (24 out of 40).

Asia came second with 15% (6 out of 40), followed by Africa with 10% (4 out of 40). Two suspicions of outcome manipulation were detected in North and South America. Matches held in Australia and Oceania in Q1 did not raise any suspicions for IBIA.

Spain had one-fifth of all potential match-fixing cases with 8 out of 40 cases: 4 suspicious football matches and 4 suspicious tennis matches.

It is worth noting that there were no mentions of suspicious betting activity in Russia in the report by IBIA. This is because European and American bookmakers who are members of the organization stopped accepting bets on Russian sporting events after the start of the sanctions. IBIA’s data is based primarily on monitoring suspicious betting activity.

In Q1 2022, IBIA identified 42 probable match-fixing cases. Thus, there is a decrease in suspicious matches by 5% on an annual basis. You can find the figures for the entire previous year here.
