Germany has eased restrictions on licensed online slots, raising the maximum bet per spin to €3 for some players and up to €5 under additional conditions, NEXT.io reported.
The new rules took effect on July 1, 2026. Previously, all players were subject to a uniform limit of €1 per spin.
Players aged 21 and over can now wager up to €3 per spin. The limit may be increased to €5 if no signs of problem gambling are detected during a 90-day monitoring period.
The maximum stake for players under the age of 21 remains unchanged at €1.
The decision was approved by Germany’s Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL). It is the first increase in the betting limit since the country launched its regulated online slots market in 2021.
According to NEXT.io, the new rules are intended to help licensed operators compete with unlicensed offshore platforms that are not required to comply with German restrictions.
The changes were welcomed by Entain, the owner of the bwin brand, and the German Online Casino Association. Industry representatives argued that the previous €1 limit was too restrictive and encouraged some players to use unlicensed gambling websites.
