The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has filed charges against 11 individuals, including former GVC Holdings (now Entain) CEO Kenny Alexander, Gambling Insider reported.
The CPS investigation centers on the activities of GVC’s Turkish subsidiary between 2011 and 2018, which has been accused of fraud and breaching UK anti-corruption laws.
Alexander faces charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy to commit bribery.
Other former GVC executives were also charged, including Richard Cooper, the company’s former CFO, and Lee Feldman, its former chairman.
As Gambling Park notes, in autumn 2023 Entain reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the CPS following a probe by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) into the group’s operations in Turkey from 2011 to 2018.
Under that agreement, Entain paid a $746 million fine and avoided further prosecution in the UK, though the settlement did not shield individual executives from potential charges.
