User data from Paddy Power and Betfair — two major brands owned by Flutter — has been compromised in a data breach disclosed today, July 8. According to Next.io, Flutter has acknowledged that a portion of customers’ personal information was exposed.
The compromised data includes usernames, email addresses, the first lines of home addresses, and some recent account activity such as device IDs and IP addresses.
While the breach did not affect all users of Paddy Power and Betfair, a significant number of accounts were impacted.
Flutter stated that, at this stage, there is no evidence that the exposed information has been misused. However, the company warned of potential phishing attempts or impersonation scams that could result from the breach.
“As soon as we became aware of the incident, we notified the appropriate regulatory authorities and launched a comprehensive investigation with the support of external cybersecurity experts to determine how best to protect our customers,” Flutter said in a statement. “Our current assessment indicates that no passwords, identification documents, or payment details were included in the breach.”
