The Netherlands’ gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has taken a significant step to regulate player spending by introducing new deposit limits. Starting October 1, 2024, these limits will apply to players based on their age groups:

  • Players aged 18 to 24: The maximum monthly deposit allowed will be €300.
  • Players over 24: The maximum monthly deposit permitted will be €700.

The primary goal of these restrictions is to address excessive gambling behavior, particularly among younger and potentially vulnerable players.

By setting clear deposit limits, the KSA aims to promote responsible gambling practices.

The Dutch gambling regulator based these limits on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

According to CBS statistics from 2020, 2021, and 2022, Dutch citizens typically allocate approximately 30% of their income to leisure and entertainment, including gambling.

While the initial deposit limits are in place, players seeking higher limits can apply for an increase. However, they must undergo a financial assessment to demonstrate their ability to pay. In essence, players will need to provide proof of income to qualify for higher deposit limits.
