Edgar Paez, the director of Tigres de Bogota, a Colombian football team in Primera B (second-division football league), was killed in a shooting, possibly because of the result of his club’s recent match, which they lost 2-3.

Edgar Paez, the head of Tigres de Bogota, was on his way home right after the game.

Two men on a white motorcycle stopped his car and fired four shots, killing him on the spot. His daughter, who was with him in the car, was slightly injured.

The crime was caught on surveillance cameras.

This murder has caused a public outrage in Colombia, a country plagued by violence. Two other second division football club leaders, who asked to remain anonymous, told the media that the murder may have something to do with match-fixing and illegal betting. In other words, the team may have played against some people’s expectations.

This theory matches what Fernando Jaramillo, the President of the Major Division of Colombian Professional Soccer, said recently. He said he had received warnings from regulators about match-fixing cases, especially in Primera B, where Tigres de Bogota plays. But he didn’t name any specific teams or individuals.

Edgar Paez had been the director of Tigres de Bogota since 2016. The next round in the Colombian football league will start with a minute of silence in his memory.
