Malta-based sportsbook software developer Altenar has filed lawsuits against sports data provider Sportradar in the United States and the United Kingdom, alleging it restricts access to data essential for launching and operating betting products, SBC News reported.
The first claim was filed in the District Court of New Jersey, with a second lodged at the High Court in London. Altenar argues that Sportradar, as a key data supplier to several major sports organisations, is abusing its market position.
Sportradar holds partnerships with leading sports leagues and bodies, including the NHL, NBA, MLB and ATP. According to the claimant, it either refuses to sell data to competitors or offers it on terms that make it impractical to run a fully functional betting platform*.
Altenar says such practices may breach antitrust laws in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
The company is seeking a court order requiring Sportradar to grant access to data, as well as damages amounting to several million pounds. Altenar is represented by Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP in the United States and Geradin Partners in the United Kingdom.
In a statement to SBC News, Sportradar said it disagrees with the allegations and considers them unfounded, adding that it will contest the claims in court.
Gambling Park notes that in 2023, Panda Interactive accused Sportradar of infringing patents related to interactive streaming technology.
