The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has announced a six-year suspension for Dominican Republic umpire Juan Gabriel Castro.

Castro was caught manipulating match results while officiating, with the clear intent of profiting from sports betting. Investigators identified three matches where he deliberately altered scores to influence betting outcomes.

During a match, umpires input point-by-point data into an electronic system that updates live scores for betting service providers like Sportradar. This data feeds into sportsbooks, shaping real-time betting lines.

Castro exploited this process by deliberately entering false scores, ensuring that betting markets reflected manipulated outcomes that benefited specific wagers.

As a result, he has been banned from officiating or attending any ITIA-sanctioned events for six years and fined $6,000.
