Four former Surrey Scorchers players have been handed lifetime bans for their roles in organizing and participating in match-fixing schemes, according to a report from City AM.
All four players are U.S. nationals.
Quincy Taylor, Shakem Johnson, Charleston Dobbs, and Padiet Wang have each received permanent suspensions that bar them from participating in any competitions under the authority of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
A fifth former Scorchers player, Joshua McFolley, was banned for 10 years.
The players were found to have rigged at least six games during the 2022–2023 season of the British Basketball League (BBL).
The investigation involved several entities, including FIBA, the BBL, and the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
All of the sanctioned athletes had left Surrey Scorchers by the end of the 2022–2023 season. One year later, the club folded. The BBL—then the top-tier basketball league in the UK — was also dissolved and later replaced by the British Super League (SLB).
