The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has notified Meta of 73 instances of illegal gambling promotion being advertised on Facebook and Instagram, both owned by the company. As per Casino Nieuws, these violations were uncovered over the past three years.
Since 2020, KSA has been a trusted observer of Meta. Messages received from organizations with such status are given priority by the owner of the popular social media platforms.
If any illegal gambling content is detected on Facebook or Instagram, the KSA can notify the platform holder through Meta’s The Gambling Regulatory Channel, designed to help regulators worldwide. Upon receiving the alert, Meta specialists check the legitimacy of the warning.
If the violation is confirmed, the company removes the corresponding content from the social media platform.
KSA did not specify the nature of the violations identified on Meta’s platforms during the three-year period, but it is likely that they include cases of illegal advertising by Jack’s Casino and Holland Casino Online, which were recorded before online gambling was legalized in the Netherlands.
