Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Yan Shing Tsang had a rough exit from the $1,500 Six Max tournament at WSOP 24, missing the money after a rather unusual mishap: he slept through the start of day two. The alarm clock wasn’t the issue — it went off multiple times as intended.

According to Poker.org, after day one, Tsang had built a solid stack of 257,000 chips, equivalent to 26 big blinds. Any poker enthusiast knows that such a stack offers a strong chance of finishing in the money.

Pleased with his performance, Yan Shing Tsang set several alarms to ensure he wouldn’t miss the start. However, this precaution didn’t help.

Instead of waking up at 10 am, Tsang woke up at 1 pm, realizing he was two hours late. Rushing to the table, he found he had a minuscule stack left, with the rest eaten away by the blinds.

In a desperate attempt to rebuild his stack, Tsang went all-in, but his efforts were quickly thwarted, leading to his elimination from the tournament.

“This was the first time this has happened in my poker career, in the 15 years that I have been playing poker professionally,” said Tsang. “I woke up, saw the time, and said, ‘Oh my God, it’s 1 pm!’ and I just ran down to the table.”

For reference, Tsang is a three-time WSOP bracelet winner with nearly $4,000,000 in career earnings.
