Las Vegas Casinos Begin Offering Instant Slot Machine Deposits via Apple Pay

Las Vegas casinos have begun testing a system that allows players to fund slot machines directly through Apple Pay, without downloading a separate app or registering with the venue’s payment platform, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The TrustedTap system has been launched by casino operator Station Casinos. It is being tested at the Durango Casino & Resort, Seventy Six-branded venues and Wildfire Anthem casino. Wider implementation will require approval from Nevada regulators.

Participating slot machines are equipped with an additional payment module featuring a contactless reader and a QR code.

Players select an amount and tap their iPhone or Apple Watch against the reader, or scan the QR code with their smartphone. The money is then charged to a debit card stored in Apple Wallet and credited directly to the machine.

Transactions use Apple Pay security features, including biometric identity verification. Bank card details are not shared with the casino or the gaming equipment manufacturer. The technology also allows players to set daily spending limits and restrictions on bet sizes.

Remaining funds and winnings cannot be transferred back through Apple Pay.

Once a player finishes, the machine prints a paper voucher showing the available balance. The voucher can be inserted into another slot machine or exchanged for cash at a cashier’s desk or a dedicated redemption terminal.

Cashless slot machine funding systems have previously been introduced in Las Vegas, but they typically required players to install an app, create a separate gaming account, verify their identity and transfer money to the casino’s digital wallet before playing.

TrustedTap allows players to deposit funds directly at the slot machine through Apple Pay without creating a separate account.
