Italian footballers Stephan El Shaarawy and Nicolò Casale, who play for Roma and Lazio, are set to sue journalist Fabrizio Corona for spreading false rumors about them. Onefootball.com reported the story.
Corona claimed that El Shaarawy and Casale were involved in illegal betting, but he had no proof.
The players have hired lawyers to clear their names and to make Corona take back his words.
The authorities have not investigated the players for any betting crimes, so they have nothing to worry about.
But Corona is not always an unreliable source. He was the first to report that Sandro Tonali, Nicolò Zaniolo, and Nicolò Fagioli were also betting illegally. And he was right. The three players are facing possible bans.
As Gambling-Park previously reported, Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli has already agreed to a 7-month ban. The cases of Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo are still pending.
