Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli, who served a seven-month suspension for betting violations, has been named to Italy’s final squad for the upcoming EURO 2024 tournament, according to the Daily Mail.

Fagioli’s return to the pitch comes after a lengthy layoff, a period that saw him banned from professional football and fined €125,000. He was also required to participate in 10 public events promoting gambling addiction awareness.

The midfielder’s suspension stemmed from his involvement in illegal betting platforms. Fagioli admitted to having a gambling debt of approximately $3 million, a significant sum considering his annual salary of $1 million. The situation reportedly took a toll on his mental health, with Fagioli seen crying on the bench during matches due to the pressure of his gambling issues.

However, Fagioli has since addressed his problems and returned to the field on May 20, playing for Juventus against Bologna.

His inclusion in Italy’s EURO 2024 squad marks a remarkable comeback, raising questions about whether he can regain his form and justify the trust placed in him by head coach Luciano Spalletti.
