Irish ex-UFC champion, Conor McGregor, continues to show his enthusiasm for the ongoing European Championship in Germany by placing yet another bet. McGregor took to his social media account on X (formerly Twitter) to announce his latest wager to his followers.

This time, McGregor has staked 60,000 (the currency in which the bet is made is unknown*) on Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to clinch the Golden Boot at EURO 2024. McGregor firmly believes that the Portuguese national team’s captain will emerge as the tournament’s top scorer.

With impressive betting odds of 15.0, the former UFC champ could potentially win 900,000 if Ronaldo indeed secures the prestigious title.

However, McGregor’s prediction goes against the data-driven analysis of Sportradar’s AI technology. After running 10,000 simulations, the AI identified French forward Kylian Mbappé as the most likely winner of the Golden Boot, with Ronaldo not even making the list of favorites.

The bet was placed with bookmaker Duelbits, of which McGregor became an ambassador last month.

McGregor, bet, Ronaldo

This isn’t the first time McGregor’s football predictions have clashed with AI insights. On June 13, he placed an $83,500 bet on Spain to win the Euro 2024 championship, with odds of 12.0. But Sportradar’s AI favors England as the probable champions.

* The currency for McGregor’s bets, whether dollars, euros, or pounds, remains speculative, as reported by The Daily Mail.
