The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has slapped the owners of the Bet365 brand with a hefty fine of $737,000. This penalty comes in the wake of violations unearthed during a 2022 UKGC review.

The fine is split between two entities: Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, which oversees Bet365’s online casino, is shouldering 59% of the total fine, while Hillside (UK Sports) ENC, which manages online betting, is footing the remaining 41%.

A March 2022 inspection by the UKGC revealed seven violations: three tied to responsible gaming policies and four linked to anti-money laundering measures.

The UKGC pointed out that while Bet365’s infractions weren’t as egregious as some other operators (for instance, Gamesys, which was hit with a $7.6 million fine in 2023), failure to rectify them could lead to more severe penalties.

Per an agreement between the UKGC and Bet365’s owners, the fines will be funneled into the implementation of safer gambling policies.

Interestingly, a recent survey revealed that a majority of Britons view Bet365 as “the fairest sportsbook” in the country.
