David Beckham has brushed off the critics who say that Inter Miami’s recent wins in American soccer are too good to be true.
The critics claim that the games played by Lionel Messi’s new team look like they are scripted, especially after the Leagues Cup final.
But Beckham, who is one of the owners of Inter Miami, says that this is the best compliment they can get. He says that the team, led by Messi, is playing like a dream, and creating moments that look like they belong in a movie.
Beckham said: “Every time Leo [Messi] scores one of these goals, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] makes one of these passes, every time Jordi [Alba] makes one of these runs, people say ‘Is it a fix?’”
“It is the biggest compliment you can give these players because it is like a movie. You watch these players play and it’s emotional because everything about their play is beautiful. Everything about their mannerisms is beautiful and everything about them as individuals, off the pitch, is beautiful”.
Inter Miami won the MLS + MX Leagues Cup on August 19th, beating Nashville SC on penalties (10:9). Then, on August 23rd, they won the US Open Cup semi-final against Cincinnati, also on penalties (5-4), after a 3-3 draw in extra time. Messi and his former Barca pals — Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba — joined Beckham’s club before the start of the season. Before they came, Inter Miami was a middle-of-the-road team in the MLS.
