A court in Amsterdam has ordered a former customer support employee of Dutch bookmaker BetCity to pay more than €240,000 in damages for unlawfully issuing free bets, Quote reported.
The court found that the employee used internal access to credit bonus bets to player accounts in breach of company rules. Such bonuses are typically granted only in limited cases, such as to compensate customers for technical issues.
During the proceedings, it emerged that free bets were regularly credited to accounts linked to the employee’s acquaintances. He deliberately used this access to systematically allocate bonuses to those accounts without valid grounds. Each free bet had a nominal value of €200.
An internal review showed that one account received 594 free bets, with the total value of bonuses reaching approximately €496,000. These funds were used for betting, allowing the players to generate net profits of about €254,000.
The court concluded that the employee acted knowingly. To avoid detection, he split the bonuses into smaller amounts into smaller amounts, thereby circumventing automated control systems.
His actions were ultimately classified as a serious breach of employment duties. The court ordered the former employee to compensate the losses, agreeing with the calculations provided by BetEnt, which operates under the BetCity brand.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that a bonus hunting ring had been dismantled in Greece, with fraudsters earning over €1.5 million.
