Bolivia’s government plans to completely eliminate taxes for gambling operators, according to a report by iGaming Expert.
The country’s new president, Rodrigo Paz, confirmed that the gambling tax will be abolished along with several others. He noted that these levies contribute less than 1% of budget revenue, yet are costly to administer and discourage investment.
At present, gambling operators face a 30% tax on gross gaming revenue (GGR). Despite this, Bolivia’s regulated market remains largely undeveloped: only one licensed casino currently operates legally in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, while much of the country’s gambling activity — including online betting — takes place without local licensing or through offshore operators.
As a result, the state receives virtually no income from the sector, even though the regulatory and administrative systems remain expensive to maintain.
Bolivia’s gambling regulator has not yet commented on the proposal. The government argues that eliminating the tax will reduce bureaucratic burdens and make the market more attractive to investors.
President Paz added that removing ineffective taxes is part of a wider effort to build a more transparent and predictable economy that is open to investment.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that the UK is taking a dramatically different approach: a leaked OBR document shows the government plans to raise taxes for the industry, introducing a 25% levy on online-accepted bets.
