Last Thursday, New England Patriots (NFL) player Kayshon Boutte, 21, was arrested for betting illegally and faking his identity online.
The charges say that Kayshon signed up for a sportsbook with a woman’s name and used his mom’s credit card to pay.
He made 8,900 bets, and 17 of them were on NCAA college football games. At the time (2022–2023), Boutte was playing for Louisiana State University (LSU). Notably, two of his bets were on how he would do in the games, and he lost both.
Boutte won up to $500,000 from his bets, but he blew most of it on more betting.
The cops found out about his crimes after FanDuel, the sportsbook, reported him in July 2023. LSU’s team also learned about the investigation that month.
After his arrest, Boutte got out on a $6,000 bail. He could get up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for illegal betting. He could also get up to 5 years in jail and a $10,000 fine for computer fraud (probably for making the fake account).
