Could Ajax Go Down? Dutch Bookies Offer Odds on Shocking Relegation

Ajax, the most successful football club in the Netherlands, is in danger of dropping out of the top division, Eredivisie, at the end of the 2023/2024 season. And some bookmakers are already taking bets on this unlikely scenario. For example, ZeBet is giving 100 to 1 odds on Ajax’s relegation.
It’s worth mentioning that Ajax has won the national championship 36 times, but they have no chance of winning their 37th title this season. In fact, they are facing the unthinkable prospect of dropping to a lower division.
In this season (2023/2024), they are off to a terrible start, with only 5 in their first 8 games (one win, two draws, and five losses). They are currently sitting at the bottom of the table, in 18th place.
In the Netherlands, the bottom two teams are automatically relegated to a lower division. There’s still plenty of time for Ajax to turn things around, and it’s hard to imagine them falling so far from grace. So, betting on their relegation seems crazy.
But stranger things have happened in football, like Leicester City’s miraculous win of the English Premier League in 2016. At the beginning of that season, the odds on Leicester’s victory were 5000 to 1.
