Real Madrid and France forward Kylian Mbappé has ended his partnership with Nike, which began in 2006, and signed a deal with Swiss brand On. The company announced the move on September 18.
The deal marks On’s first move into football. Mbappé will serve as the brand’s global ambassador and help develop and test football boots and apparel.
On plans to launch its first football boots in 2027. The company has also appointed former France international Thierry Henry as head of its football division. In that role, he will be involved in product development, athlete relations and expanding On’s presence in the sport.
Mbappé’s relationship with Nike dates back to before the start of his professional career. In recent years, he was one of the brand’s leading football ambassadors and had his own signature Mercurial boots. Nike has confirmed the end of the partnership and wished him well.
According to reports, Mbappé’s deal with On runs for ten years and will also see him become a shareholder in the company. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
Before moving into football, On was best known for its running shoes and had also been expanding its presence in tennis. Roger Federer became a co-owner in 2019 and has been involved in product development.
