Five football players from the Vietnamese team Ba Ria-Vung Tau, who play in the second division of the local league, are accused of rigging a game to cash in on bets, Express International reports.

The players allegedly agreed to throw a match on December 24th of last year against SHB Da Nang, the visiting team.

Then, they bet on the outcome they wanted. The report doesn’t say how much they bet or where they did it, but that’s not important. What matters is that they pulled off the scam, and SHB Da Nang won 3-1.

The police are now investigating the players who were involved in the crime. They haven’t decided what to do with them yet.

It’s worth noting that the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) published a report on the number of suspicious matches in 2023, finding 184 such matches, but none from Vietnam.
