Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, is reportedly in discussions with two prominent gambling corporations in the country, Genting Global Casino Group, owned by billionaire Lim Kok Thay, and Berjaya Corp Bhd, owned by businessman Vincent Tan.
The talks, as reported by Bloomberg, center around the possibility of opening a second casino in the country.
The proposed location for this integrated casino resort is the Forest City development, a project valued at $100 billion, situated in Johor, near the Singapore border.
According to Bloomberg, negotiations, led by the Prime Minister, took place last week in Forest City. The proposal received support from the owner of the complex, Chinese developer Country Garden Holdings Ltd.
At present, Malaysia’s only casino resort is Resorts World Genting, operated by Genting, and located near Kuala Lumpur, the country’s capital.
