iGaming Business reports that the French government has laid down the law on gambling ads with reminders about the possible pitfalls of excessive gambling.
The new rules say that any gambling-related ad must include messages about responsible gaming. They also require information about groups that help people with gambling problems.
On top of that, online ads must dedicate at least 15% of their space for responsible gaming messages, and every video ad must have a 5-second clip highlighting the possible harms of gambling.
Besides, these messages must be shown in black font on a yellow background to make sure they catch the eye of consumers.
The directive cites several reasons for this move. For instance, a study by the French Public Health Agency showed that 73% of gamblers think that responsible gaming messages in ads are a useful tool for preventing gambling addiction.
Earlier this month, The National Gambling Authority (ANJ) banned the use of athletes’ images in betting ads.
