Handicap +3.5 and -3.5 (aka point spread) is a way of betting where you give or take 3.5 goals (or points, pucks, runs, etc.) to or from a team before the game starts.

Did you know? This works for any sport where teams can score multiple times, such as football, basketball, baseball, and so on.

What Does It Mean for Your Bet?

  • Betting on -3.5 means you think your team will win by more than 3.5 goals. They need to score at least 4 more goals than the other team. 3.5 goals are subtracted from their final score.
  • Betting on +3.5 means you think your team will not lose by more than 3.5 goals. They can win, draw, or lose by up to 3 goals. 3.5 goals are added to their final score.
  • With ±3.5, there are no draws. You either win or lose your bet. This is different from the regular handicap, where you can get a refund if the game ends in a draw.

Pro tip: The sign (+ or -) shows which team has the lead or lag. The number (3.5) shows how big the lead or lag is.

IN THE PICTURE: handicap for 1 team is -3,5; handicap for 2 team +3,5.

How Does It Play Out in Reality?

Imagine you’re feeling lucky and want to bet on a soccer game between Roma and Inter. Roma is the underdog, so they get a +3.5 goal edge. Inter is the favorite, so they get a -3.5 goal gap.

The table below shows you how to win or lose your bet, depending on the actual score of the game:

How to read? The adjusted score is the real score plus or minus the handicap.
