What is a 3/5 System Bet?
A 3/5 system bet is a strategy that covers 10 trebles (combinations) of 5 events – you win if 3 or more events match your prediction (odds affect the profit).
Heads Up: The first number (3) tells you how many events are in each combo, and the second number (5) tells you how many events you have to choose from.
How It Works?
- Pick your bets: Choose 5 events from any sport or market you like.
- Select 3/5 System Bet: 10 trebles will be auto-created on your bet slip.
- Place your bet: Enter your stake on your bet slip and make your wager.
- Win: Get paid based on the odds and the number of winning trebles.
- Lose: Lose your bet if you lose at least 3 out of 5 picks.
3/5 System Bet in Action
Scenario 1: Big Win
In this scenario, you hit all 5 picks and win all 10 trebles. The 5 basketball teams you chose are: Lakers, Nets, Bucks, Suns, and Jazz. Here’s how it goes:
# | Treble | Odds | Result |
1 | Lakers, Nets, Bucks | 1.8 x 2.2 x 1.6 = 6.336 | Won |
2 | Lakers, Nets, Suns | 1.8 x 2.2 x 2.0 = 7.92 | Won |
3 | Lakers, Nets, Jazz | 1.8 x 2.2 x 1.9 = 7.524 | Won |
4 | Lakers, Bucks, Suns | 1.8 x 1.6 x 2.0 = 5.76 | Won |
5 | Lakers, Bucks, Jazz | 1.8 x 1.6 x 1.9 = 5.472 | Won |
6 | Lakers, Suns, Jazz | 1.8 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 6.84 | Won |
7 | Nets, Bucks, Suns | 2.2 x 1.6 x 2.0 = 7.04 | Won |
8 | Nets, Bucks, Jazz | 2.2 x 1.6 x 1.9 = 6.688 | Won |
9 | Nets, Suns, Jazz | 2.2 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 8.36 | Won |
10 | Bucks, Suns, Jazz | 1.6 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 6.08 | Won |
If you bet $100 on the system, each treble gets $10 of your stake ($100/10=$10). So, to get a return, use this formula:
Return = Stake x (1/10) x (Sum of odds of all trebles)
This would give you a $680.2 return and a profit of $580.2 ($680.2-$100).
The formula is simple, but the calculation is a nightmare. Showing you the whole calculation would be like trying to fit an elephant in a fridge.
So, there’s an easier way to calculate the payout. Just use SYSTEM Calculator!
Scenario 2: Small Loss
What if things didn’t go as planned, and you missed two picks (Nets and Jazz)? Don’t worry, you can still minimize your loss. Here’s what happens:
# | Treble | Odds | Result |
1 | Lakers, Nets, Bucks | 1.8 x 2.2 x 1.6 = 6.336 | Lost |
2 | Lakers, Nets, Suns | 1.8 x 2.2 x 2.0 = 7.92 | Lost |
3 | Lakers, Nets, Jazz | 1.8 x 2.2 x 1.9 = 7.524 | Lost |
4 | Lakers, Bucks, Suns | 1.8 x 1.6 x 2.0 = 5.76 | Won |
5 | Lakers, Bucks, Jazz | 1.8 x 1.6 x 1.9 = 5.472 | Lost |
6 | Lakers, Suns, Jazz | 1.8 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 6.84 | Lost |
7 | Nets, Bucks, Suns | 2.2 x 1.6 x 2.0 = 7.04 | Lost |
8 | Nets, Bucks, Jazz | 2.2 x 1.6 x 1.9 = 6.688 | Lost |
9 | Nets, Suns, Jazz | 2.2 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 8.36 | Lost |
10 | Bucks, Suns, Jazz | 1.6 x 2.0 x 1.9 = 6.08 | Lost |
The table shows that you had bad luck with your system bet. Only the Lakers, Bucks, and Suns won their games. This made 9 of your trebles lose, and only 1 win.
So, we only get $57.6 as a return: ($10 x 5.76), which is a loss of $42.4 ($100-$57.6).
Pros and Cons of a 3/5 System Bet
Pros | Cons |
Misfire-proof: Win or break even if 1 or 2 out of 5 picks fail (odds-dependent). | Confusing calculation: Deal with ten different trebles, instead of one parlay. |
Flexibility: Choose any sport for your selections, as long as its odds are 1.5+. | Higher stake: Each treble requires a separate stake. |
Less risk: Lose less money than a parlay if 1 or 2 picks lose. | Lower odds: Get less money than a parlay if all picks win. |
