Dick Schreuder, NEC head coach
In the Netherlands, mice repeatedly interrupted a press conference held by NEC head coach Dick Schreuder following a Europa League match. Dutch broadcaster ESPN NL shared footage of the unusual incident.
The incident took place on October 15 in Nijmegen, following NEC’s home match against Bulgarian side Levski Sofia.
While speaking to reporters, Schreuder noticed mice scurrying beneath journalists’ chairs. Shortly afterward, one of the rodents ran along a ledge near several electrical outlets, catching the manager’s attention.
“They’re everywhere now! Unbelievable!” Schreuder exclaimed, interrupting his post-match analysis.
The incident prompted laughter from the journalists. Schreuder tried to resume the press conference, but a mouse soon ventured close to his desk.
“As long as it doesn’t climb onto my neck,” the NEC boss joked.
It remains unclear how the mice got into the press conference room. The club has yet to comment on the incident.
NEC are competing in European football for the first time in 17 years. The Dutch side opened their Europa League campaign with a 5-0 defeat to Juventus before earning their first point with a 1-1 draw against Levski Sofia.
