The wife of the presumed winner of a €223.2 million SuperEnalotto jackpot has demanded a share of the prize, according to Corriere della Sera. The couple are living apart but remain legally married, meaning the winnings could be treated as jointly owned marital property.
The winning €5 ticket was purchased on September 11 in Oggiono, a town in Italy’s Lombardy region. The winner’s identity has not been officially disclosed, although he is reportedly a bank employee from Lecco.
The couple married in 2023 under Italy’s default community-of-property regime, under which assets acquired during the marriage are generally considered to belong to both spouses.
The woman’s lawyers believe she could be entitled to half of the jackpot but have offered to settle for €80 million. Alternatively, they suggested monthly maintenance payments.
According to Corriere della Sera, the presumed winner had not yet collected the jackpot at the time of publication and had not responded to his wife’s demands.
However, some details of the family dispute remain uncertain. The Italian outlet Open found an earlier version of the same story that gave a different account of how the woman learned about the jackpot and named a different organization as the sender of the demands.
