Betsson, a Swedish gambling company, has secured a 5-year title sponsorship with the Italian football club Inter, SBC News reports.
The deal, spanning five years and starting with the 2024/2025 season, is valued at €30 million plus performance-related bonuses.
This alliance is particularly intriguing given Italy’s stringent ban on gambling advertising, which includes a prohibition on gambling logos adorning sports club jerseys.
Betsson’s workaround? The Inter jerseys will sport the logo of StarCasino.Sport, a sports news portal under Betsson’s umbrella, cleverly circumventing the current Italian restrictions.
This isn’t just a one-season wonder. This branding strategy is slated to debut in the 2024/2025 season and could signal a shift in the Italian legislative landscape concerning gambling promotion in sports.
StarCasino.Sport isn’t new to the Italian football scene, having already made its presence felt with clubs like AS Roma, albeit without the weight of title sponsorship behind it.
