Stakelogic to Pay Fine After Testing Slot Speed with a Manual Stopwatch

The UK gambling regulator has fined casino games developer Stakelogic £122,835, or about €142,500, after a number of its online slots were found to spin too quickly. The case centred on a breach of technical standards that limit game speed and set a minimum interval between spins.

The investigation began after Stakelogic itself reported an issue with Tiger Temple 88. In that game, the interval between spins was 1.97 seconds, while UK rules require online slots to have a gap of at least 2.5 seconds.

Stakelogic then retested its full portfolio of games available in the UK market. The review identified another 15 slots that also failed to meet the minimum spin interval.

Across the affected games, the deviation from the required interval ranged from 0.001 to 0.675 seconds.

The investigation found that the failures were linked to the company’s testing method. Stakelogic had been measuring spin intervals using a manual stopwatch.

The developer accepted the regulator’s findings and temporarily restricted access to the non-compliant games in the UK. It also said it had reviewed its testing methods and compliance procedures.

John Pierce, the regulator’s director of enforcement, said that, given the technological resources available today, using a manual stopwatch to test the speed of online slots was unacceptable.

He urged operators to ensure that their testing procedures enable them to comply with all current standards.

The minimum interval between online slot spins was introduced in the UK in 2021 to reduce the intensity of play and protect users from potential harm.
