Detroit casino strike

Employees from three Detroit casinos have been on strike for a month, and they want people to boycott four betting apps: BetMGM, ESPN BET, FanDuel, and Hollywood.

CBS Detroit reports that the Detroit Casino Council (DCC), which represents the casino workers, has started a digital ad campaign to ask people not to use these betting platforms.

Michigan, where Detroit is located, has other online bookmakers like WynnBET, DraftKings, and Caesars Sportsbook.

But the strike only targets BetMGM, ESPN BET, FanDuel, and Hollywood. That’s because these four betting apps are big money-makers for the companies that run Detroit’s casinos.

Nia Winston, a union leader for hospitality workers, explains this in a written statement.

The casino workers want higher wages, better pension benefits, and protection for workers affected by new technologies. They have been on strike since October 17.
