William Hill, part of the Evoke gambling group, has announced that it is withdrawing from 13 countries, 10 of which are located in Africa.
Starting from 2 December, residents of Angola, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and Vietnam will no longer be able to place bets with William Hill. The company did not disclose the reasons behind this decision.
According to the operator’s website, all bets on events that conclude before 2 December will be settled as usual. Bets whose outcomes were expected after that date will be settled as void with odds of 1.0.

Users will be able to log in and withdraw their funds until 5 January. Starting 6 January, account access will be disabled, and customers wishing to retrieve any remaining funds will have to contact customer support.
As a reminder, in 2022, 888 Holdings (now Evoke) transferred the rights to use the 888 brand to 888Africa, a joint venture created with private investors and executives, in a bid to expand its presence in regulated African markets. The first licensed jurisdictions where the brand launched were Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that up to 200 William Hill betting shops in the UK might close if tax rates are increased.
