Production is under way in Australia on Netflix’s new feature film The Big Fix, about an international football match-fixing scheme. Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed star in the crime thriller, FilmInk reported.
Production is under way in New South Wales, with most of the filming taking place in Sydney. Filming is expected to wrap by the end of July 2026. An official release date has not yet been announced.
The film is based on a true story and a book by journalist Brett Forrest.
The story centres on a former Interpol officer working at FIFA. He uncovers an international football match-fixing scandal and begins searching for those behind the scheme. His target is a fixer linked to Chinese triads who makes millions of dollars by manipulating match results.
According to the project description, the story unfolds as a crime thriller about a confrontation between the FIFA official and the fixer.
The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for Everest and Adrift. The screenplay was written by Guy Bolton and Justin Haythe. Chris Eaton, a former Australian police officer and sports integrity specialist whose work at FIFA was one of the sources for the story, is listed as an executive producer on the project.
Although the main production is based in Australia, the film has an international setting. Australian media reported that some Sydney streets were transformed into London locations for the shoot, with British street signs, barriers and London-style façades.
According to estimates by authorities and industry bodies, the filming of The Big Fix will create about 500 jobs for local workers and contribute around $55 million to the New South Wales economy.
